Description

In both the bachelor’s and the master’s degree programme in educational science, students acquire the knowledge, skills and methods needed in a changing professional environment in a way that provides them with the tools needed for scientific work, informed judgements, critical analysis of research results and responsible action as professionals and as members of society.

In the bachelor’s degree programme, the students are familiarised with fundamental knowledge, methods, questions and theories of educational science. They work towards earning a first academic degree and professional qualification at the end of the programme. The aim of the programme is to enable students to independently apply their acquired knowledge in their chosen professional field. Students prepare for both an early transition to professional practice and the subsequent master’s degree programme.

In the master’s degree programme, they expand and build on their previously acquired knowledge and capabilities. It leads to a second academic degree and professional qualification. The students learn to independently apply findings of educational science and to reflect on their significance and relevance for solving complex scientific and social issues. They also learn to independently develop scientific questions and to answer them using scientific methods.

Programme Structure

The standard period of study of the bachelor’s programme in Educational Science is seven trimesters. The programme includes compulsory and optional modules and a thesis. Students who have not yet satisfied all of the academic requirements of the bachelor’s programme can be admitted to the master’s programme on a provisional basis. Students who have obtained 180 credit points with an average grade of 3.0 or better by the end of the eighth trimester can progress to the master’s programme. Students who do not meet these requirements may obtain the necessary credit points in the ninth trimester to successfully complete their bachelor’s degree.

The master’s programme comprises five trimesters (eighth to twelfth trimester) and a master’s thesis at the end of the programme. In the master’s programme in educational science, students expand and build on the knowledge and skills they previously acquired in the bachelor’s programme.
