The master’s program Electrical Power Engineering deals with the important topics of electrical power generation and distribution as well as power electronic and electromechanical energy conversion. The area covered by the electric energy systems encompasses both the conventional generation of energy through the combustion of fossil fuels as well as the renewable energy production through wind power and photovoltaics. Furthermore, the transmission and distribution of electrical energy over overhead lines and high energy cable part of this module. In order to minimize the transmission losses, very high DC and AC voltages are used in the energy transmission. The resulting technical challenges u.a. in terms of insulation and protection technology are treated by the high voltage technology. The power electronics uses special semiconductor components to convert the electrical energy into various forms. The structure, the mode of action and the operating behavior of electrical machines are taught by modules from the field of electrical machines and drives. Based on the basic laws of physics, generators, transformers, motors and actuators are analyzed and the specific parameters developed. Further modules such as thermodynamics and turbomachinery as well as nonlinear control complete the training.
The students acquire a broad range of competencies in solving tasks in the field of modern electrical energy technology in the master’s program Electrical Power Engineering. B. in every modern wind turbine, every electric drive and in every computer application.
