The Conference “Mixed Methods in Social Structural Analysis: Potentials of Integrating Qualitative and Quantitative Approaches” was co-organized by the Section Social Inequality within the German Sociological Association, the working group Mixed Methods of the Sections Empirical Research Methods and Qualitative Research Methods in the German Sociological Association, the Sociological Research Institute Goettingen, the Department of Sociology at Goettingen University, and the Network MMMR.

The event, which saw a total of 57 participants on site, focused on the relation between traditional quantitative and more recent qualitative subject-orientied approaches in the empirical investigation of social inequality. Special attention was paid to the potential as well as the practical and methodological challenges of combining both approaches in social structural research.

14 conference presentations covered the topics of “Limits of Qualitative and Quantitative Social Structural Analysis”, “Social Class, Stratification, and Milieus”, “Poverty and the Precariat”, “(Higher) Education”, and “Theoretical and Methodological Perspectives”. Additionally, a roundtable discussion summarized core issues and results of the conference, featuring Nicole Burzan (TU Dortmund) and Corinna Kleinert (Bamberg University) as discussants.
