Philosophy of History and Culture

Project Leader: Prof. h.c. Jon Stewart, PhD., Dr. habil phil. et theol., Institute of Philosophy,
Slovak Academy of Sciences

Human beings express their understanding of the world and themselves by means of their cultural creations. Through the interpretation of different works of culture, it is possible to understand how people of different ages perceived the world around them and their place in it. The project is interdisciplinary and touches on fields such as philosophy, history, religious studies, literature and the social sciences.

The project is accompanied by series Philosophy of History and Culture (Brill). https://brill.com/display/serial/PHC?language=en

This series presents original works broadly concerned with philosophical treatments of the
manifold forms of culture and their interpretation in their different historical contexts. Texts
treat interpretive strategies for understanding culture and history.
