Alexander Windmann, M.Sc., Senior Scientist, Head of the Machine Learning Research Group, and PhD Candidate

I studied Mathematics at RWTH Aachen University, where I completed both my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. In addition to my academic training, I gained practical experience at the interface of data-driven analysis and risk assessment.

My research focuses on the safety and robustness of artificial intelligence in technical systems. In particular, I work on the evaluation and improvement of robust machine learning methods under realistic disturbances, as well as on transferring these findings into practical guidelines and standards.

Jonas Ehrhardt, MSc, Research Associate and PhD Student

MSc in Information Studies – Data Science (UvA) and MSc Business Administration and Engineering. My research focusses on planning problems that are too large and too messy to be tackled by pure symbolic planning algorithms. I am especially interested in the integration of symbolic methods into learning approaches, e.g., integrating formal reasoning into Reinforcement Learning, or vice versa the integration of learning approaches into symbolic methods. Additionally, I am interested in regularization techniques for training or finetuning Large Language Models and their application in the above-mentioned research area.

Research Focus Symbolic AI

Dr. Alexander Diedrich, Research Group Lead Symbolic Artificial Intelligence

I am the senior scientist for symbolic artificial intelligence within the chair of computer science in mechanical engineering. After an apprenticeship as a computer engineer, I obtained a Bachelor’s degree in computer engineering and a Master’s degree in information technology from Ostwestfalen-Lippe University of Applied Sciences (TH OWL). I completed my PhD in 2023 where he investigated learning of logical expressions from data and how to perform automated fault diagnosis of cyber-physical systems. My current research interests include learning logical models from data, validation of knowledge bases, and fault diagnosis with logical and structural methods.
