General Information & Background
The European Initiative for the Exchange of Military Young Officers (EMILYO) – also known as Military Erasmus – is a European exchange initiative for officer cadets and students at military and defence-related universities. It was launched in 2008 at the initiative of the European Union and is inspired by the civilian Erasmus programme.
The aim of EMILYO is to strengthen European security and defence education, interoperability, and mutual understanding among European armed forces. Today, more than 25 European countries participate in EMILYO through their military academies and defence universities.
A core element of the initiative are Common Modules (CMs) – international academic modules on security and defence topics jointly delivered by European partner institutions. Further information and current activities are available on the official EMILYO website:
