The Centre for Postgraduate Education (ZWW) offers various study and executive education programmes in joint cooperation with powerful national and international institutions.

All study and executive education programmes meet high scientific standards and follow the recommendations on key competences for lifelong learning of the European Qualifications Framework and German Qualifications Framework.

Study programme for future Bundeswehr and allied military leaders


Study Programme Profile
Focussing on the scientific study of strategy, leadership, security, and international relations, the study programme complements and consolidates the knowledge acquired by future Bundeswehr and allied military leaders during the National General/Admiral Staff Officers’ Course (NCASOC), which is offered in cooperation with the Bundeswehr Command and Staff College (BwCSC). The programme is recommended for future military leaders who have been admitted to the NCASOC or have completed this course. The individual components of the NCASOC form part of the study programme and are recognised with three modules.

 

Degree: Master of Arts (M.A.)

Duration of study: A 2-year standard period of study, 60 ECTS credit points

Target group: future Bundeswehr and allied military leaders

Admission requirements:
(1) a total of 240 ECTS credits achieved for completion of a Bachelor’s programme at a German or foreign institute of higher education,
(2) at least two years of vocational activity, including at least one year with management responsibility, after obtaining a higher-education degree that qualifies the applicant to enter a profession, and
(3) admission to the National General/Admiral Staff Officers’ Course (NCASOC) at the Bundeswehr Command and Staff College (BwCSC) or equivalent training.

Structure:
In-service online study with compact attendance-based classes comprising 7 compulsory modules, 3 of which are completed at the Bundeswehr Command and Staff College and 4 of which are completed at the Helmut Schmidt University (HSU), Bundeswehr University Hamburg, including a final module with a master’s thesis.

Study programme for future military executive personnel of the Bundeswehr and NATO


Study Programme Profile
This programme aims at preparing future military executive personnel of the Bundeswehr and NATO to perform command functions in the area of civil-military cooperation in conflict and crisis regions. It is offered in cooperation with the Civil-Military Cooperation Centre of Excellence (CCOE). The courses will be held in German and English. The cooperation with the CCOE is as follows: The CCOE offers two modules with compulsory attendance in The Hague, Netherlands.

 

Degree: Master of Arts (M.A.)

Duration of study: A 2-year standard period of study, 60 ECTS credit points

Target group: Future military and civilian executive personnel of the Bundeswehr and NATO

Admission requirements:
(1)  a total of 240 ECTS credits achieved for completion of a bachelor’s programme at a German or foreign institute of higher education
(2)  at least two years of vocational activity, including at least one year with management responsibility, after obtaining a higher-education degree that qualifies the graduate to enter a profession
(3)  proof of English language skills required for the studies and examinations corresponding to the B2 – C1 levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages

Structure:
In-service online studies combined with compact attendance-based classes comprising 9 compulsory modules, 2 of which are completed at the CCOE and 7 of which are completed at the Helmut Schmidt University (HSU), including a final module with a master’s thesis

Contents:
At the CCOE: principles of civil-military cooperation and a planning module for civil-military cooperation including an attendance phase at the CCOE
At the HSU: principles of leadership, research methods, cross-cultural awareness and intensive courses in subjects such as strategy, diversity and international politics
