Chair of Protestant Theology with Special Emphasis on Social and Technology Ethics

In the scientific discussion surrounding society’s existential questions, ethics proves to be an indispensable instrument of reflection, thoroughly exploring these questions theoretically and illuminating their ethical dimensions.

The Chair of Protestant Theology undertakes this task with a particular focus on social and technological ethics. Whereas social ethics refers to a methodological approach that primarily emphasizes the social dimension of various ethical issues, technological ethics represents the ethical reflection of technology in the multitude of its aspects, including production, application, and consequences. Complex interdependencies exist between the two, which require discursive exploration and analysis within interdisciplinary research contexts.

The courses offered are fundamentally interdisciplinary and blend theoretical foundations with applied practical examples. A specific religious or ideological conviction is not a prerequisite. In addition to offering different perspectives on the topics, exchange and discussion are integral components of the courses.

Research topics include

  • Fundamental and contemporary issues in applied ethics
  • AI and digital technologies
