Effective Risk Communication (ERika)

The research group “Effective Risk Communication” (ERika) is a joint project of Helmut-Schmidt-University Hamburg (HSU) and the Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR).

The ERika research group consists of scientists from the HSU and the BfR. It contributes to the scientific foundation of risk communication and thus increases its effectiveness. Within three years, the research group investigates the specific topic “The Cost of a Crisis – Analyzing the Significance of Non-Events in Health-Related Consumer Protection” from an economic and psychological perspective using a theory-based empirical-experimental mix of methods. In the context of non-events, risk communication measures aim to have a preventive effect, to prevent crises and accordingly to protect the health of the target groups. The project will also investigate whether and how cost-benefit trade-offs can be used in communication with various stakeholders and for reputation management.
