The Student Convention consists of 27 elected students with voting rights and meets monthly. There are also advisory members. It is comparable to the Student Parliament (StuPa) at civilian universities. The Speaker’s Council, comprising a chairperson, a deputy chairperson and seven speakers, corresponds to the General Student Committee (AStA). It is the central point of contact for students with problems in everyday study life, burning questions and the need for advice.
The Speaker’s Council acts as an interface between students and the university administration. It represents the interests of the students in the academic bodies and in public. According to its own self-image, it is both a service provider to the students and a guardian of participation rights and a mouthpiece both internally and externally.
Since the 2013 legislative period, the Student Convention has also had a management board. The management was set up in order to better separate the legislative branch, the Convention itself, and the executive branch, the Speaker’s Council, and above all according to democratic principles. From now on, the management presides over the meetings of the Student Convention.
At regular events with high-profile guests, students will be given the opportunity to discuss issues with political and military decision-makers. With the Trimester Beginning Party (TAF), the Convention organises one of the largest university parties in Hamburg every year and thus makes its contribution to the integration of each new student year.
