Silke Bumann is a postdoc at the Chair of Political Economy and Empirical Economics. She is a research fellow and coordinator of the project „Implications of Climate Change and Climate-induced Disasters for Individuals, Firms and the Insurance Sector (Climate_Affect)“. The project focuses on the attitudes of individuals and firms regarding climate change. A second major theme of the project is the role of insurances to mitigate climate risks.
For her research Silke employs survey data, e.g. Gallup World Poll, and combines it with geographic data, to investigate how socio-demographic variables and extreme wheather events influence the climate change beliefs of individuals.
Silke Bumann studied economics in Hamburg, Nantes and Edinburgh. In 2015 she was awarded her Ph.D. by the University of Groningen. In her thesis she studies, empirically and theoretically, the impact of financial liberalization on different economic variables, such as growth and inequality. She then joined the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Biology as a postdoc to do research on climate change and cooperation. Since January 2019 she is a postdoc at the Chair of Political Economy and Empirical Economics at the Helmut Schmidt University in Hamburg.
