EuroEM – Chairmans notice

Dear Colleagues,

On behalf of the European Electromagnetics Conference (EuroEM) 2020 Organizing Committee, I have the privilege to invite you to participate in the the EuroEM 2020, which is taking place in Hamburg, Germany, from August 24th to 28th 2020.

The AMEREM/EUROEM meetings have a rich history behind them. In 1978, Dr. Carl Baum organized the first Nuclear Electromagnetic Pulse Meeting (or the NEM ) in Albuquerque, NM. When this meeting was held in 1994 in Bordeaux, France, it was renamed the EUROEM and subsequently, the meetings held in North America have been called the AMEREM. These meetings have been held in every even year since 1978.

The EuroEM 2020 will continue the AMEREM/EUROEM tradition to bring together the 26th High-Power Electromagnetics Conference (HPEM 26), the 19th Ultra-Wideband, Short-Pulse Electromagnetics Conference (UWB SP 19) and the 19th Unexploded Ordnance Detection and Range Remediation Conference (UXO 19).

EuroEM 2020 will also be interdisciplinary, and researchers from fields such as Electromagnetic theory, Pulsed power technology, EMP/UWB/UXO/HPM, Lightning, Antenna technology as well as biological and medical applications are all welcome. In doing so, we hope to promote the exchange of academic research results, presentation of progress and discussion of ideas and challenges in the field of High Power Electromagnetics.

Hamburg has a rich history of international trade and is therefore well prepared to welcome guest from all over the world. As a member of the Hanseatic League, the city always had good connections to Eastern Europe, the Mediterranean, Africa and the Middle East, from the Middle Ages on. Its striving port guarantees not only its prosperity with large shipping companies, importers of raw products like coffee, cocoa and carpets, but keeps its mind open for new ideas and different mindsets. In modern times, it is the base for many industrial leaders, like Airbus, Phillips or Beiersdorf (best known for Nivea Body Lotion), Shipbuilding Companies like Blohm & Voss and many International Trading Houses.
