Exploring Immersive Research in Accounting: Involvement, Intervention, Reflexivity and Care

16 September 2026

WORKSHOP

This workshop continues the conversation on immersive research in accounting that we started at the 2025 Helsinki workshop on innovative research methods in accounting. This second workshop will take place at Helmut-Schmidt-University in Hamburg on 16 September 2026.

We invite contributions on research that works in close proximity to organisations, professions, communities, and public problems. The workshop is especially interested in empirical papers that use immersive approaches and reflect on questions of access, positionality, reciprocity, care, intervention, and methodological transparency. Approaches may include interventionist, insider, ethnographic, dialogic, participatory, non-extractive, digital, documentary, visual, and text-led forms of inquiry.

Designed as a one-day research and paper development workshop, the event prioritises dialogue, collective sensemaking, and detailed feedback on early-stage ideas, extended abstracts, and more developed papers.
