Functional safety is indispensable in modern Industry 4.0 manufacturing cells. The EMT Chair is conducting research on fail-safe communication protocols based on IO-Link Wireless to implement safety functions such as emergency stop, safety door monitoring, and mobile enable buttons wirelessly and in compliance with standards (SIL 3 per IEC 61508 / PL e per ISO 13849).
