Events

Various lectures are held regularly at HSU/UniBw H, organised by the faculties and other institutions. Information about these can be found in HSU app, on the monitors and on the notice boards at HSU/UniBw H.

Every year in June, HSU/UniBw H invites visitors to its traditional open house on a Saturday. In addition to laboratory tours, hands-on events, presentations, lectures, and a varied children’s program, the highlight of the day is the graduation ceremony, in which officer cadets are graduated to second lieutenants or ensigns in a festive military ceremony.

Every year in October, the president invites to the University Prom at the Officers’ Club. The next Prom will take place on Friday, October 24, 2025. Information is available via the Bulletin Service.

The Protestant University Community invites you to ‘Worship with Currywurst’ at lunchtime at regular intervals at the Bischof-Hermann-Kunst-Haus, Jüthornstraße 61, 22043 Hamburg. The dates will be announced via the bulletin service, registration is not required.

The Catholic University Community meets every Tuesday at 7:15 p.m. for Mass, dinner and a cosy get-together at the bar in the Maximilian Kolbe House, Oktaviostraße 76, 22043 Hamburg. Registration is not required.

Twice a year, the Language Centre at HSU/UniBw H hosts the popular Quiz Night for staff and students. At Quiz Night, 15 teams of up to 6 people compete against each other in various categories.

The next Quiz Night will take place on 1 December 2025 from 7.30 p.m. in the OHG.

This major sporting event takes place every year in May, and all members of the university—both civilian and military—are invited to participate. Teams of 24 members compete against each other in 10 disciplines: in addition to amphibious games, basketball, darts, powerlifting, beach volleyball, and the military fitness challenge, they also have to master the disciplines of strongest soldier maritime edition, spikeball, table tennis, and Viking chess. The Solidarity Run at HSU/UniBw H is an annual charity event organized by students in May to benefit organizations that care for injured soldiers, police officers, and emergency responders. With its various running distances and accompanying entertainment, the event appeals to competitive athletes, recreational runners, Bundeswehr employees, rescue workers, and families with children. The solidarity run, which attracts several thousand participants each year, is not only about sporting activity, but above all about showing humanity and responsibility towards those who take on special burdens in the service of society.

This charity event in aid of the Soldiers and Veterans Foundation takes place every year in May. At this sporting and social event, teams compete against each other and swim several kilometres in 24 hours. Information about this event is provided via the bulletin service.

The sports center regularly offers various sporting events and tournaments, such as the small-field soccer tournament. A beach volleyball tournament is also in the planning stages.

Finally, the Welcome Office also hosts its own events.

.All international scientists and international employees who have started working at HSU/Uni Bw H during the course of the year will be welcomed together at a Welcome Reception in the officers’ club.

The Welcome Reception always takes place in November/December of each year – you will receive the invitation in good time.
