Curiculum Vitae

Matthew Stephen has held the Chair of Political Science, especially International Political Economy, at the HSU since 2024. Prior to his appointment as Professor, Matthew worked as a Senior Researcher at the research unit Global Governance at the WZB Berlin Social Science Center (2013-2024). He was also a Research Fellow at the DFG-funded Research Center (KFG) “International Rule of Law” (2016), an interim Professor at the HSU (2018-2019, 2021-2022), and a Senior Research Fellow at the German Institute for Global and Area Studies (2018-2019).

Matthew Stephen completed his Bachelor’s (2003-2006) and Master’ (2007-2008) degrees in Political Studies at the University of Otago in New Zealand. He completed his doctorate degree summa cum laude at the Free University of Berlin in 2013.
