Personal details
Ahmad completed his Bachelor’s degree in Applied Chemistry at Damascus University in 2014. Afterwards, he was awarded a full scholarship by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and started his master studies at Christian Albrecht University of Kiel. During his master’s studies, he joined the group of Synthesis and Real Structure as a student assistant and completed his master’s thesis, “Synthesis of Nanoparticles by Plasma-Liquid Interface”, within the same research group. In 2020, Ahmad joined the group of Construction Materials and Building Preservation at Helmut Schmidt University as a Research Assistant under supervision of Prof. Sylvia Kessler.
His current research focuses on two main areas:
- Corrosion behavior of reinforcing steel — Investigating the corrosion properties of various types of reinforcing steel bars under service conditions, with particular emphasis on the synergistic effects of simultaneous chemical and mechanical degradation. This is studied using electrochemical techniques, including electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and potentiodynamic polarization.
- Aging effects on galvanized structural steel — Assessing the influence of long-term service exposure on the zinc coating integrity and mechanical performance of galvanized structural steel, employing metallographic analysis, tensile testing, and impact testing.
