M. Sc. Nemesio Miguel Daza Marquez

Nemesio Daza-Marquez is a Civil Engineer and holds a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering and has previous research experience in advanced cementitious materials, ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC), and the use of supplementary cementitious materials and industrial by-products for the development of sustainable construction materials. His work has focused on the characterization of cement-based materials, including their mechanical performance, durability, and long-term behavior.
Nemesio joined the group of Construction Materials and Building Preservation at Helmut-Schmidt-University as a Research Assistant in 2026. His current research focuses on the physico-chemical mechanisms governing autogenous self-healing in cracked concrete. In particular, he investigates reactive transport processes and the precipitation of calcium carbonate within cracks under continuous water flow conditions. The research integrates hydraulic flow experiments, chemical analysis of permeating water, and mineralogical characterization to understand how binder composition influences self-healing processes.
