BEYOND THE ‚POSTS‘: Defining the former Soviet sphere of influence in a post-colonial and post-imperial age (08.10. – 09.10.2025; Universität Bonn)

Der interdisziplinäre Doktorandenworkshop – organisiert vom Lehrstuhl für Osteuropäische Geschichte der Universität Bonn und der Professur für Osteuropäische Geschichte an der Helmut-Schmidt-Universität Hamburg – untersucht die Rolle von Erinnerungskulturen und Nationsbildung im post-sowjetischen Raum im Lichte postkolonialer und postimperialer Theorien.

The interdisciplinary PhD workshop – jointly organized by the Department of Eastern European History at the University of Bonn and the Department for Eastern European History at the Helmut-Schmidt University Hamburg – explores the role of memory cultures and nation-building in the post-Soviet space through the lens of postcolonial and postimperial theory.

Thematisiert werden dabei unter anderem:

– Postkoloniale Ansätze zur Erforschung von Erinnerung

– Staatlich vs. zivilgesellschaftlich geprägte Narrative

– Repräsentationen des Stalinismus als imperiales oder koloniales Verbrechen

– Konkurrierende nationale Identitäten sowie Opfer-Täter-Zuschreibungen

Key topics include:

– postcolonial approaches to memory studies

– state vs. civil society narratives

– representations of Stalinism as imperial / colonial injustice

– competing national identities and victim / perpetrator attributions
