The Centre for Postgraduate Education (ZWW) offers various study and executive education programmes in joint cooperation with powerful national and international institutions.

All study and executive education programmes meet high scientific standards and follow the recommendations on key competences for lifelong learning of the European Qualifications Framework and German Qualifications Framework.

Study programme for future Bundeswehr and allied military leaders


Study Programme Profile
Focussing on the scientific study of strategy, leadership, security, and international relations, the study programme complements and consolidates the knowledge acquired by future Bundeswehr and allied military leaders during the National General/Admiral Staff Officers’ Course (NCASOC), which is offered in cooperation with the Bundeswehr Command and Staff College (BwCSC). The programme is recommended for future military leaders who have been admitted to the NCASOC or have completed this course. The individual components of the NCASOC are part of the study programme and are recognised with three courses.

Degree: Master of Arts (M.A.)

Duration of study: A 2-year standard period of study, 60 ECTS credit points

Target group: future Bundeswehr and allied military leaders

Admission requirements:
(1) a total of 240 ECTS credits achieved for completion of a Bachelor’s programme at a German or foreign institute of higher education,
(2) at least two years of vocational activity, including at least one year with management responsibility, after obtaining a higher-education degree that qualifies the applicant to enter a profession, and
(3) admission to the National General/Admiral Staff Officers’ Course (NCASOC) at the Bundeswehr Command and Staff College (BwCSC) or equivalent training.

Structure:
In-service online study with compact attendance-based classes comprising 7 compulsory courses, 3 of which are completed at the Bundeswehr Command and Staff College and 4 of which are completed at the Helmut Schmidt University (HSU), Bundeswehr University Hamburg, including a final course with a master’s thesis.

Study programme for future military executive personnel of the Bundeswehr and NATO


Study Programme Profile
This programme aims at preparing future military executive personnel of the Bundeswehr and NATO to perform command functions in the area of civil-military cooperation in conflict and crisis regions. It is offered in cooperation with the Civil-Military Cooperation Centre of Excellence (CCOE). The courses will be held in German and English. The cooperation with the CCOE is as follows: The CCOE offers two courses with compulsory attendance in The Hague, Netherlands.

Degree: Master of Arts (M.A.)

Duration of study: A 2-year standard period of study, 60 ECTS credit points

Target group: Future military and civilian executive personnel of the Bundeswehr and NATO

Admission requirements:
(1)  a total of 240 ECTS credits achieved for completion of a bachelor’s programme at a German or foreign institute of higher education
(2)  at least two years of vocational activity, including at least one year with management responsibility, after obtaining a higher-education degree that qualifies the graduate to enter a profession
(3)  proof of English language skills required for the studies and examinations corresponding to the B2 – C1 levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages

Structure:
In-service online studies combined with compact attendance-based classes comprising 9 compulsory courses, 2 of which are completed at the CCOE (link to the CCOE schedule of the 2 courses) and 7 of which are completed at the Helmut Schmidt University (HSU), including a final courses with a master’s thesis

Contents:
At the CCOE: principles of civil-military cooperation and a planning courses for civil-military cooperation including an attendance phase at the CCOE
At the HSU: principles of leadership, research methods, cross-cultural awareness and intensive courses in subjects such as strategy, diversity and international politics

For (prospective) manager in areas tasked with procurement projects in (federal) ministries and subordinate authorities in Germany and the other EU member states.


Study Programme Profile
The central qualification objective of the International Procurement Cooperation programme (MPA) is for graduates to be able to assume responsibility for the management of major procurement projects in international, interdisciplinary, and intercultural fields of work and to do so with deliberation and based on their professional and methodical training and their value-based team leadership skills. The programme takes an interdisciplinary approach in which students choose one of two different tracks: one with a focus on law, one with a focus on economics. Regardless of their chosen track, all students will acquire basic leadership and management skills and will learn about project and technology management as well as parameters of procurement projects from a strategic and transnational perspective. Depending on their chosen track, students will learn the fundamentals of either economics or law as well as specifics of either procurement law or procurement organisation. The IPC programme is offered in English in order to emphasise its intercultural nature and international perspective.

Degree: Master of Public Administration (MPA).

Period of study: 2-year standard period of study, 60 ECTS credit points.

Target group: (Prospective) management personnel in areas tasked with procurement projects in (federal) ministries and subordinate authorities in Germany and the other EU member states.

Admission requirements:*

A total of 240 ECTS credit points achieved for completion of one or more study programmes at a German or foreign institute of higher education
At least two years of professional experience, including at least one year with leadership responsibility, after obtaining a higher-education degree qualifying the applicant to enter a profession
Sufficient knowledge of the English language to successfully complete the programme and the examinations (certificate attesting C1-level skills or equivalent)
Structure:

Part-time studies in a blended-learning format with two blocks of classroom phases and online learning phases; 3 compulsory courses, 3 consolidation courses, 3 specialisation courses of either the economics track or the law track, and a final course with a master’s thesis

Contents:

Leadership and management, project and innovation management, empirical research methods, an interdisciplinary course, network management, negotiation, risk management and compliance; as part of the law track: methodology of European and international law, European contract law and contract drafting, principles of European procurement law; as part of the economics track: fundamentals of economics, accounting and controlling, public finance, methodology of European and international law
