I am a sociologist working on conflicts, crises, and social transformation, as well as violence, (in-)security, and globalization. I am particularly interested in everyday dynamics and the post\/decolonial dimension of the present. To this end, I have conducted ethnographic research in Angola, Mozambique, Afghanistan, and Germany. I studied at Sciences Po Paris and the University of Witten\/Herdecke, and completed my doctorate at Humboldt University Berlin in 2010. Before joining Helmut Schmidt University in early 2021, I was a Professor of the Sociology of Globalization at the Bundeswehr University Munich and a Senior Fellow at the Hamburg Institute for Social Research. Prior to that, I worked as a project group leader, visiting professor, and research associate in various international and interdisciplinary teaching and research contexts, including at the Centre Marc Bloch Berlin, Erfurt University, the University of Marburg, and Humboldt University Berlin. Alongside my academic teaching and research activities, I regularly work beyond the ivory tower of academia as a speaker, consultant, and author across various civil society, political, and artistic fields of practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a current research project I explore „Experiences of (in-)security and (un-)safety in the university context after October 7, 2023<\/a>„, at the intersection of sociologies of (in-)security, critical security studies<\/em> and the sociology of the everyday of globalisation. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
