These pressures are visible both globally and in different regions of the world. The Chair of International Political Economy studies these processes with a particular focus on the rise of China and the contested and changing role of international institutions and norms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our current research programme focuses on topics such as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The global consequences of China\u2019s rise<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Evolving forms and structures of global governance<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The role of ideas and narratives in shaping global order<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Please take a look at our research and publications under the team members\u2019 profiles, and feel free to get in touch with us via email.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Latest<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Social Purpose Workshop at the <abbr title=\"Helmut Schmidt Universit\u00e4t\">HSU<\/abbr>:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile\" style=\"grid-template-columns:auto 46%\"><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">The Chair for International Political Economy hosted the second round of the Social Purpose Workshop on 11\u201312 December 2025. Organized by <abbr title=\"Professor\">Prof.<\/abbr> <abbr title=\"Doktor\">Dr.<\/abbr> Matthew Stephen (Helmut Schmidt University, Hamburg) and <abbr title=\"Professor\">Prof.<\/abbr> <abbr title=\"Doktor\">Dr.<\/abbr> Daniel C. Thomas (Leiden University, The Hague), the workshop centered on the concept of <em>social purpose<\/em> as popularized by John Ruggie in 1982.
