Prior to his appointment as Professor, Matthew worked as a Senior Researcher at the research unit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wzb.eu\/en\/research\/international-politics-and-law\/global-governance\" rel='nofollow'>Global Governance<\/a> at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wzb.eu\/en\/\" rel='nofollow'>WZB Berlin Social Science Center<\/a> (2013-2024). He was also a Research Fellow at the DFG-funded Research Center (KFG) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kfg-intlaw.de\/\" rel='nofollow'>&#8222;International Rule of Law&#8220;<\/a> (2016), an interim Professor at the <abbr title=\"Helmut Schmidt Universit\u00e4t\">HSU<\/abbr> (2018-2019, 2021-2022), and a Senior Research Fellow at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.giga-hamburg.de\/en\" rel='nofollow'>German Institute for Global and Area Studies<\/a> (2018-2019).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Matthew Stephen completed his Bachelor&#8217;s (2003-2006) and Master&#8216; (2007-2008) degrees in Political Studies at the University of Otago in New Zealand.
