Under the leadership of the civilian Equal Opportunities Officer, the event series „Living Diversity – Between Desire and Reality | Insights from Science and Practice“<\/a> characterised the year 2023 at Helmut Schmidt University\/University of the Federal Armed Forces Hamburg. Members of the Human Resources Members team were involved in the conception of the series and actively contributed to the organisation and implementation of individual events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Balian Buschbaum, former top athlete, bestselling author, speaker and coach, was invited to speak at the kick-off event on 23 February 2023. He spoke in a humorous, engaging and informative way on the topic of „Why diversity concerns us all – LIVING diversity!“. In her co-presentation, Barbara Sieben (HSU<\/abbr>) took a critical look at diversity research and management and shed light on how perspectives on diversity move „between colourful diversity, differences and inequalities“. A lively discussion with the audience and a convivial finale rounded off the event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On 18 April 2023, Lisa Marie Rosen and Aysun Do\u011fmu\u015f (HSU<\/abbr>) used the documentary film <\/a>\u201eDer zweite Anschlag\u201c<\/a> (Mala Reinhardt, 2018) to focus on the frightening continuity of racially motivated riots, attacks and murders in Germany, particularly from the perspective of those affected by right-wing violence. The subsequent panel discussion with cultural and political scientist Kien Nghi Ha (University of T\u00fcbingen) was also a very impressive invitation to take a „racism-sensitive look at diversity in the past and present of the German migration society“.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To conclude the series of events on 15 February 2024, Angela Kornau, Lisa Marie Rosen and Barbara Sieben (HSU<\/abbr>), together with Michael Rohde, organised a panel discussion entitled „Diversity in the Federal Armed Forces \u2013 between aspiration and reality“<\/a>. Various stakeholders who are committed to promote diversity and inclusion in the Federal Armed Forces were brought together. Together, they discussed the Bundeswehr’s strategy and the measures and progress already taken, but also critically reflected on problem areas and resistance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
