\nView & Find is a fast, flexible and versatile program to interact with, decode, extract, search and automatically index the beta code files on the Thesaurus Linguae Graecae E and Packard Humanities Institute #5.3 and #7 CD ROMs. In addition, the program works with other material converted into beta code as well [Oxford text archive OTA\u00a0files<\/a>,\u00a0Prof. Dr. J.Malitz‘ CONCEyst\/IGEyst\u00a0files (MC tools to convert these files\u00a0can be downloaded\u00a0here: MC),\u00a0Frankfurter Epigraphische Datenbank files<\/a>].<\/p>\n
\nV&FRUN [ \/S ]<\/p>\n
\nBecause of its high speed and flexibility, View and Find used to be expensive. However, it is now in the PUBLIC DOMAIN and can be downloaded here. The program runs under DOS emulation under several operating systems and has been used successfully together with\u00a0DOSBox<\/a>\u00a0under\u00a0Windows XP,\u00a0Windows Vista,\u00a0ReactOS,\u00a0OpenSolaris, Linux (SuSE 7.0 to 11.2) DOS emulators (DOSEmu (very fast searching),\u00a0DOSBox,\u00a0FreeDOS\u00a0under\u00a0VirtualBox\u00a0\/\u00a0Bochs\u00a0\/\u00a0QEmu, with DOSBox under\u00a0FreeBSD, and under OS X with\u00a0DOSBox<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Q(special development stemming from\u00a0QEmu<\/a>).\u00a0FreeDOS<\/a> under Microsoft VirtualPC\u00a9 and WindowsVista\u00a9\u00a0is very slow. It also works under native DOS, of course, provided a 32-bit processor is present in the system. For Linux systems, we recommend\u00a0DOSEmu<\/a>\u00a0for its high searching (disk I\/O) speed, flexibility and ease of use and DOSBox\u00a0for its stability and high terminal I\/O speed.<\/p>\n
