From 1991 to 1996 he did his doctorate in mechanical engineering at the TU Braunschweig in engineering mechanics, from 1997 to 2002 Professor Meywerk was a CAE engineer in the department for CAE method development at Volkswagen AG in Wolfsburg. Parallel to his industrial employment he was lecturer at the TU Braunschweig  (engineering mechanics, theroretical mechanics).
