Degree: Master of Science

Standard period of study: 5 trimesters for a master’s degree

Admission requirements:

  • general higher education entrance qualification (Abitur),
  • higher-education degree that was obtained in a relevant bachelor programme in due time and with a grade of at least “good” (2.5) or—in case of intensive study programmes—”satisfactory” (3.0) ,
  • successful completion of the officer examination,
  • temporary-career enlistment for 13 years in the career of line officer.

Description

The International Relations master’s degree programme deals with the complex relationships among the actors in international politics as well as with transnational policies shaping the relationships between different nations. The students are familiarised with prominent international relations theories such as neorealism, liberalism and constructivism. Essential issues include shifts in power in the international system and their consequences as well as conflicts, their causes and their peaceful settlement. The master’s degree programme focuses on imparting in-depth knowledge in the fields of global governance, international organisations, regions in the international system and the role of Europe in the world. The political science components are complemented by modules from the fields of transnational law/constitutional law, public administration and sociology.
