It was <strong>launched in 2008 at the initiative of the European Union<\/strong> and is inspired by the civilian Erasmus programme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The aim of EMILYO is to strengthen <strong>European security and defence education<\/strong>, <strong>interoperability<\/strong>, and <strong>mutual understanding among European armed forces<\/strong>. Today, <strong>more than 25 European countries<\/strong> participate in EMILYO through their military academies and defence universities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A core element of the initiative are <strong>Common Modules (CMs)<\/strong> \u2013 international academic modules on security and defence topics jointly delivered by European partner institutions.
