He studied Sociology, Psychology and Economic Sciences at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena and did his doctorate at the University of Hamburg where he also qualified as a professor. His main research interests are in the interrelationships between the design of human resource management and its effects on employees and organizational performance. Most recently, he has worked on HRM systems, job quality, job satisfaction, as well as the influence of national institutions and culture. His scienti\ufb01c works have been published in leading international journals such as <em>Human Resource Management<\/em>, <em>Human Resource Management Journal<\/em>, <em>International Journal of Human Resource Management<\/em>, and <em>Journal of World Business<\/em>.
